Madame Fling Flong
Can I bring my fling here? Sure, but if canoodling’s your agenda, you’ll want to be quick to nab one of the dim-lit corners.
The look: Warm red walls, fringed lampshades and comfy couches point to a retro hideaway – with a dash of nanna’s living room thrown in.
The crowd: Definitely not Newtown grunge. As one of King Street’s classier bars, Madame’s attracts the Inner West’s upmarket residents.
The soundtrack: runs the gamut between mood pop and ’60s and ’70s chill-out vibes. Signature drink: Wines from Oz, NZ and Italy jostle alongside European lagers – and the cocktails aren’t bad, especially the bar speciality, the Madame Special.
On the menu: The mezze or cheese plates will sort you out. Or head downstairs to Soni’s – the tapas menu is great if you fancy more than just a nibble.
The wow factor: The bar transforms into a mini movie-theatre on Tuesday nights.
