Silk Road on Collins
The look: OTT doesn’t even begin to describe it. In a sense, Silk Road is six bars in one, each an increasingly lavish variation on the Sino-Euro theme. Car-sized chandeliers, Louis Vuitton chairs, Caravaggio ceiling murals – the eight-figure fit-out puts it in another league. Imagine the Vatican museum rebuilt in Shanghai by Elton John and you might get an inkling of the sensory bombardment in store.
To drink: It’s not so much a case of what to drink but where. Each bar has its speciality, be it cocktails, vintage wines or premium spirits. If you’re really keen to liquefy your assets, you won’t have trouble finding a bottle of something prized with a price to match.
To eat: Embark on a moveable feast starting, for example, at the mezze station and working upstairs to the sushi bar or private teppanyaki room.
Dress code: Don’t attempt denim unless famous.
Best for: Living (very) large.
