Debonair House
The look: Subdued simplicity: high ceilings, soft leather sofas and mood lighting. If you venture past the tiled bar to the back room, you’ll also discover a pool table and the glowing embers of an open fire.
To drink: Here’s where Debonair House really distinguishes itself. The comprehensive cocktail list includes a range of bar originals such as the Naked State ($13). The ingredients are secret but the results aren’t. Another drink to try is the very dirty Putanesca martini ($15) made with fiery Laphroaig whisky and an anchovy stuffed-olive.
To eat: Choose from an extensive snack selection including chilli quail ($7.50), stuffed Lebanese eggplants ($10) and a long list of gourmet pizzas.
The vibe: Unlike many city equivalents, Debonair House has a certain come-as-you-are ambience, in keeping with Northcote’s Neo-boho ethos.
Best for: Chipping in for a jug of Pimms with chums after a tour of High Street’s eateries.
